Deze extra soft pastels van Sennelier zijn aan het eind van de 19de eeuw ontwikkelt door Gustave Sennelier. Sennelier pastels worden nog steeds volgens traditionele wijze handmatig gemaakt met extreem pure geselecteerde pigmenten en een natuurlijk bindmiddel. Het resultaat is een prachtig, zachte en  pastel met een exceptioneel hoge intensiteit en lichtechtheid. De Sennelier pastel a L'Ecu range bestaat uit 525 kleuren.

Sennelier ontwikkelde zijn pastels aan het begin van de 20e eeuw , en was heel lang de leverancier van de Franse impressionisten. Zo heeft Degas heeft zijn beroemde tekeningen van balletdanseresjes met deze pastels gemaakt.

Sennelier softpastels in no less than 525 different colours. Top quality soft pastels with high brightness from France. The consistency is a bit smoother than that of the somewhat drier Unison soft pastels. But because they have a completely different color palette, they can be used in combination.

It took more than three years, at the beginning of the 20th century, to develop the Sennelier range of Extra Soft Pastels "à l'Ecu" to create one of the widest choice of pastel colors. Over the century, this range of tones has evolved, but the heart of production remains unchanged.

Degas made his famous drawings of ballet dancers with these pastels.
