Tragacanthgom wordt gebruikt als bindmiddel in tempera-, gouache- en aquarelverf. Bij de vervaardiging van pastelkrijt kan het worden gebruikt om de pigmenten te binden.
Tragacanthgom is een plantaardige gom die wordt geproduceerd uit het exsudaat van bepaalde peulvruchten (Astragalus tragacanta) die in het hele Midden-Oosten in het wild groeien. Het is stroperiger dan Arabische gom en gemakkelijk oplosbaar in koud water.
In dit potje zit 25 gram poeder, goed voor circa. 2,5 liter oplossing.
Tips en waarschuwingen
- Niet verwarmen tijdens het oplossen – tragacanthgom verliest zijn eigenschappen bij verhitting.
- Gebruik altijd schoon (liefst gedestilleerd) water om bederf te voorkomen.
- Gooi de gomoplossing weg bij schimmelvorming of geurverandering.

Tragacanth gum 25 grams
Tragacanth gum is a vegetable gum produced from the exudate of certain legumes (Astragalus tragacanta) that grow wild throughout the Middle East. It is more viscous than gum arabic and easily soluble in cold water.
Tragacanth gum is used as a binding agent in tempera, gouache and watercolour paints. In the manufacture of pastel colours, it can be used to bind pigments.
This jar contains 25 gram powder, for ca. 2,5 liter solution
Tips and warnings
- Do not heat while dissolving – tragacanth gum loses its properties when heated.
- Always use clean (preferably distilled) water to prevent spoilage.
- Discard the gum solution if mould forms or the smell changes.
