In 1949 benaderde de Parijse schilder Henri Goetz Henri Sennelier, de beroemde fabrikant van kunstenaarsmaterialen, over het maken van een waskleurenstok voor zijn vriend Pablo Picasso. Picasso, al lange tijd klant van Sennelier en een frequente bezoeker van hun winkel aan de overkant van het Louvre, was op zoek naar een medium dat vrij kon worden gebruikt op verschillende oppervlakken zonder te vervagen of te barsten.

Naast deze klassieke tinten is er een selectie van unieke tinten beschikbaar, en in het bijzonder een gradatie van grijstinten, vereist voor een uitgebalanceerd palet. Deze evolutie is het resultaat van een langdurige samenwerking met Europese en Noord-Amerikaanse schilders, die met het bedrijf hebben samengewerkt om een uitzonderlijk kleurenpalet te ontwikkelen.

De oliepastels van Sennelier hebben een buitengewoon hoog pigmentgehalte, waardoor ze een hoog kleur- en dekkingspotentieel, een uitstekende helderheid en een hoge mate van lichtstabiliteit hebben (met uitzondering van metallic en fluorescerende tinten).

Parisian painter Henri Goetz approached Henri Sennelier, the renowned artist's supplies manufacturer, about making a wax color stick for his friend Pablo Picasso. A longtime customer of Sennelier and a frequent visitor to their shop across the street from the Louvre, Picasso was looking for a medium that could be used freely on a variety of surfaces without fading or cracking. Their collaboration resulted in the incomparable Sennelier oil pastels.

Originally available in a palette of classic hues, the coluor selection has been expanded with the addition of metallic and iridescent shades. In addition to these classic shades, a selection of unique shades is available, and in particular a gradation of grays required for a balanced palette. This evolution is the result of a long-term collaboration with European and North American painters, who have worked with the company to develop an exceptional color palette.

Sennelier's oil pastels have an exceptionally high pigment content, which gives them a high color and coverage potential, excellent clarity and a high degree of light stability (with the exception of metallic and fluorescent shades).
